The Logo Foundation provides consulting services
for schools, districts, and other organizations wishing to develop
a constructionist educational program involving Logo and related
technologies.
We begin with an email or telephone exchange
in which we gather information about your overall educational program,
how you are currently using computers, and what you see as your
needs and issues. After this preliminary discussion we will arrange
a site visit to observe classes and to talk with students, teachers,
and administrators. Finally, we will submit a written report containing
our recommendations regarding staff and curriculum development,
software, and hardware.
Information Gathering
During our discussions and visit, we will seek
information in several areas.
About your educational program in general:
- What educational goals have the highest priority
for you?
- Do you rely primarily on prepared curriculum
and materials or do teachers play a major role in curriculum development?
- Are integrated curriculum units common in
your schools?
- To what extent do you use project-based learning?
- Do you encourage team teaching?
- To what extent do teachers make use of computers
for their own professional or personal needs? How many teachers
have computers at home?
- Typically, how are whole class instruction,
individual, and group activities balanced?
- What means of assessment do you rely on:
standardized tests, student portfolios, teacher assessment of
student performance, or other methods?
About computer use in particular:
- Are computers is classrooms, common areas,
or in labs?
- To what extent are computers networked in
individual rooms, whole schools, and the district? Do students
and teachers have email accounts and Internet access.
- What proportion of your students have computers
at home and how are they incorporated into your educational program?
- What kind of hardware do you have and how
is it distributed? Do you currently have plans for any new acquisitions?
- Is computer instruction given by regular
classroom and subject area teachers or by specialists?
- How are you currently using computers? What
software do you use? Is Logo currently being used and if so, how?
- Is computer instruction provided as a subject
in itself, or is computer use part of other subjects?
About staff development:
- In general, how do you provide for staff
development? To what extent do you rely on district employees,
outside consultants, or regional service centers?
- What training have teachers received in educational
uses of computers? What opportunities do they have for further
development?
- To what extent do teachers make use of computers
for their own professional or personal needs? How many teachers
have computers at home?
Since you are seeking our advice,
you probably feel that there are areas for potential change and
improvement. What are these?
