The Logo Foundation
provides consulting services for schools, districts, and other
organizations wishing to develop a constructionist educational program
involving Logo-based learning environments and related technologies. We
can look broadly at your overall program or focus on a more specific
course or project such as the mathematics curriculum, robotics,
simulations in science and other subjects, animations and games.
We begin with an email or telephone exchange in which we gather
information about your school and its educational
program, how you are currently using computers, and what you see as
your needs and issues. After this preliminary discussion we will
arrange a site visit in which we may observe classes, and talk with
students, teachers, and administrators. Finally, we will submit a
written report containing our recommendations regarding professional
and curriculum development, software, and hardware.
Information Gathering
During our discussions and visit, we
will seek information in one or more areas.
About your educational program in general:
- What educational goals have the
highest priority for you?
- Do you rely primarily on prepared
curriculum and materials or do teachers play a major role in curriculum
development?
- Are integrated curriculum units
common in your schools?
- To what extent do you use
project-based learning?
- Do you encourage team teaching?
- Typically, how are whole class
instruction, individual, and group activities balanced?
- What means of assessment do you
rely on: standardized tests, student portfolios, teacher assessment of
student performance, or other methods?
About computer use in particular:
- Are computers is classrooms,
common areas, or in labs? Does each student have his or her own
computer?
- To what extent are computers
networked in individual rooms, whole schools, and the district? Do
students and teachers have school email accounts and Internet access.
- What kind of hardware do you have
and how is it distributed? Do you currently have plans for any new
acquisitions?
- Is computer instruction given by
regular classroom and subject area teachers or by specialists?
- If there are specialists, is their
role to teach students, work with teachers on technology integration or
both.
- How are you currently using
computers? What software do you use? Is Logo currently being used and
if so, how?
- Is computer programming offered as
a subject?
Since you are seeking
our advice, you
probably feel that there are areas for potential change and
improvement. What are these?
Recommendations
Following
our discussions and visit, we will give you a written report advising
you about:
- Allocation of existing hardware,
software, and support materials.
- Acquisition of new hardware,
software,
and materials.
- Professional development.
- Curriculum development.
We will then be available for
follow-up
discussions about our recommendations and your plans for the future.
Fees
The
fee for Logo Foundation consulting services is $1,000 per day plus
expenses. This fee is charged only for the time involved in the on-site
visit. The preliminary and follow-up discussions and report are
included.
