Learning Machine  Learning

A workshop led by Rodrigo Fábrega

When: Sunday, May 3, 2026
10:00 AM to noon Eastern Time (USA
Where everywhere via Zoom

Join us to explore the foundations of Machine Learning in a creative, accessible, and hands-on way.

Using LearningML, a version of Scratch that incorporates Machine Learning, you will build a model, train it, and adjust its results. You will be able to create animated stories and games that respond to images, text, and sounds. You will explore how Machine Learning systems can be created and improved through experimentation, testing, and iteration.

We will reflect on how we arrived at this moment in the development of artificial intelligence. We will look at some of the key ideas behind AI and why Machine Learning has become such an important part of how computers interact with the world today. We’ll see how computers are programmed to recognize patterns so as to be able to distinguish between different images, sounds, and words.

Through playful activities and discussion, you will gain a better understanding of how machines “learn” from examples.

Throughout the workshop, we will emphasize the idea that children are the creative thinkers who teach an obedient machine to follow their instructions. Rather than seeing AI as something magical or distant, participants will experience it as something they can understand, question, and shape.

This workshop is designed for learners and educators who are interested in creative computing, artificial intelligence, and playful ways of learning about technology. LearningML is available in both English and Spanish.
